Mr Lawrence Bourke (-1946) began his farming career at Hamua, Wairarapa, and became part-owner of a property at “Hilltop”, at the end of Scott’s Road, Fitzherbert West. In 1900 he purchased land at the sale of Sir James Prendergast’s Fitzherbert Estate and commenced dairy farming on Section 189 and 190, on the top of the Fitzherbert Terrace. He married Roseanna O'Reilly in 1909. After his death the Government purchased this property and it is now part of Massey University.
