John McEwen (1852-1929) was the twin son of David and Mary McEwen. His twin brother, James, was accidentally killed in childhood. Born in the Hutt Valley, his family moved to Karere in 1868. He married Anne Sanson (1865-1939), daughter of William and Agnes Sanson, in 1882. They farmed at Karere and raised six children.
This image is derived from a copy negative, made from a photograph loaned by Michael Fitzsimons of Karere in 1970. The original photograph is not held by the Ian Matheson City Archives.
