A procession walked to the Palmerston North Showgrounds, where a religous service was held, followed by a 21 gun salute and sports programme, on 2 June 1953. Later that night a Coronation Fancy Dress Ball was held, and a formal Coronation Ball later in the week. The events were organised by the Palmerston North City Council to celebrate the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II.
