Ashhurst Brass Band

The Ashhurst Brass Band was established in 1889. Messrs T Nelson, J Paton, J Jarvis, J Ferris and J S Freeman were instrumental in forming the band. Mr Groves was the first bandmaster and there were 25 enrolled members. Newspaper reports show that the band regularly played at local dances and other community events. It was disbanded in about 1925 due to a scarcity of players.
