This image was taken for a story that ran in The Manawatu Evening Standard on 22 June, 1963. "It is hard on feet and hands working in mud and slush conditions on cold mornings as these Post Office Department employees well know. Here they are seen laying pipes for re-routing telephone cables under the Manawatu bridge road. Two cables serve the micro-wave station and two others the Linton-Fitzherbert area."
