This postcard comes from a series depicting various holds from the art of ju-jitsu. This card is labelled, "'Ju-jitsu' defence for ladies". This type of display would make Florence 'Flossie' Le Mar a star when she toured New Zealand in the years before WWI. She is the star of The Lady and The Hooligan - which toured New Zealand, including a showing Palmerston North.
