This twenty-roomed house was the home of two Mayors of Palmerston North and its attractive gardens were one of the showpieces of the borough for many years. The building stood on Section 972 (the western corner of Linton and College Streets), with the main entrance being for College Street. The house was built about 1887 by Mr William Park, a bookseller, who was Mayor from 1893 to 1895. He sold the property to Mr FJ Nathan in 1910 (Mayor from 1923 to 1927), who died there in 1938. His widow Mrs EF Nathan sold the property in 1947 and from that date until its demolition in 1967 the building was used a boarding house. The photograph shown here shows the side of the house facing College Street. The lawn in the foreground is now the site of two modern dwellings (single storey) facing Linton Street.
