The McEwen farmhouse was built in 1893 and destroyed by fire in the 1960s. It was the home of David McEwen (1818-1905), settler of Karere, from 1893 to 1905. It was built on the site of the first Post Office in Palmerston North, 1869-1871.
This image is derived from a copy negative, made from a photograph loaned by Michael Fitzsimons of Karere in 1970. The original photograph is not held by the Ian Matheson City Archives.
