“Boom Factory An Example To City, Says M.P.”
- Description
-
These images were taken for the May 7th, 1978, edition of the Tribune weekly newspaper, the first of which was published with the caption “Mr Singer (left), Mr Walding (centre) and Mr Wetere discuss the factory's progress in the company's nearly-completed $1.25 million building extension.”
An excerpt from the article read: Palmerston North's successes in regional development, particularly New Zealand Motor Bodies' new factory in Keith Street, were of special interest to the Member for Western Maori, Mr K. Wetere, when he visited the city last week. He was in Palmerston North to support the election campaign of Labour's candidates for the Manawatu and city Parliamentary seats. Mr Wetere inspected Motor Bodies' huge $3 million factory on Wednesday, accompanying the Labour candidate for the city seat, Mr Joe Walding. They were shown around the buildings by Mr A. K. Singer, the factory Manager, and saw the last of a batch of 75 buses being constructed for the Education Department.
These images form part of the Manawatū Evening Standard Negative Collection. Unfortunately, only negatives between April and December 1978 are held.
