Thomas Joseph Mechen (b. 1923), in grounds of Palmerston North Boys High School at the Boys’ High Gala Day. Thomas was in the Palmerston North Silver City Band, playing the cornet and they were invited to play at the gala. Thomas, his father, Bob and brother Clem all played in the band. Thomas was the son of Robert Whyte and Edith Mechen. When photograph was taken they were living in Dahlia Street (previously they lived in Rolleston Street). He attended Palmerston North Boys High School circa 1936 – 1938.
