Description

These businesses were on the eastern side of The Square, between Church Street and Fitzherbert Street (now Avenue). Taken from The Square the staff of both stores are outside and the horse and delivery cart. In 1891 a fire, which started in next door Simmonds and Pegdens, destroyed both stores, along with a neighbouring tinware store.
