This image was taken for a story that ran in The Manawatu Evening Standard on 31 August 1961 "The new taxiway at the Palmerston North Airport, which was completed recently, is closed. This time, however, it is to enable workmen to place lighting on the perimeter of the sealed strip. Waterproof conduit is shown being cut in preparation for laying."
