Description: These images were taken for the Tribune weekly newspaper but were not published. The negatives had no accompanying information beyond the year ‘1978’.

They depict from left, panelbeater and navigator Robert Orr, driver Brian Green, and mechanics Philip Moore and Murray Trotter who competed in the 1978 Pall Mall Rally. Here, they enjoying a post-race drink, possibly at the Cloverlea Tavern.

A contemporary article excerpt read: “Palmerston North rally driver Brian Green held third place in the Pall Mall Rally Championship when its second round began in Palmerston North yesterday. This position on the rally table may have altered by the time the second stage is completed, around 8.30 a.m. today. The rally began from the city's Square yesterday about 2 p.m. and should finish at the Awapuni Racecourse this morning around 8.30 after the competitors have travelled some 800km of Manawatu roads. At the start of the Palmerston North second round, Ford Escort cars held the first four places in the championship table. Brian Green, with navigator Robert Orr, are driving the Albert Autos Escort 1800.”
