Ko te marae tuatahi ki te tū i runga i tētahi wāhi akonga. Ko te tūwheratanga o te marae ‘Te Kupenga o Te Mātauranga’ i te rā e ono o te marama o Māhuru i te tau 1980. I tae mai te tāngata tokorua ngā rau. The first Marae to be built on a campus was opened at the Palmerston North Teachers' College on 6 September 1980. About 200 people attended the opening, which was followed by a church service and a hangi.
