Pie Eating Contest
- Description
Members of the New Zealand Power Boats Association met in Palmerston North during the weekend of 17-18 May, 1975, for their annual conference and pie eating competition. The competition was held at a Palmerston North tavern, beginning at 2 pm. It took Manawatu boaties, Des Strong and Paul Godbas just 2 minutes 14 seconds to consume 8 pies specially baked for the occasion at a Palmerston North bakehouse. It was the second consecutive win for Manawatu, who took 4 mins 3 seconds to win in 1974. Taranaki boaties were second by a wide margin.This photograph shows the winners of the competition with their sheild. Printed in the Manawatu Evening Standard 19 May 1975.
