Skip to Content

Retrieval of freight train, engine KA 951, which derailed 20 August, 1946, in the Manawatu Gorge. Two of the three crew, driver B Craighead and fireman R Hoskins, were killed, while the Guard, R Maitland, escaped. Three wagons and the engine fell into the flooded river after running into a slip at the Woodville end of the Gorge.
