These images were taken for the September 24th, 1978 edition of the Tribune weekly newspaper, the first of which was published with the caption: “Some spectacular jet-boating was seen in the Manawatu Gorge last Thursday when 48 boats competing in the Citizen's Watch Jet Boat Marathon raced through it. Here one of the boats crashes through the White Horse rapids.”

These images form part of the Manawatū Evening Standard Negative Collection. Unfortunately, only negatives between April and December 1978 are held.
