This image ran in the Manawatu Evening Standard on 14 March 1988 alongside this story: "The old limestone quarry near Woodville will soon be demolished, but until then it should be treated as dangerous. Owner Maurice Gleeson of Pahiatua's Gleeson Carrying Company said a date had not been set for demolition, but the company hoped to complete the task before winter. Until then, Mr Gleeson has warned people to "stay away. The whole thing is about to fall down. If someone walked in there they could fall down hole and God knows what else could happen." Vandals recently set fire to the building, but the blaze soon died out and no damage was done. Once the old buildings had been torn down Mr Gleeson said his company would set up a portable plant to mine the lime. "We're not in any hurry to get stated [sic]. We'll operated as the need requires." The farming community was so bad at the moment there wasn't much call for lime, he said. Gleeson's [sic] inherited the quarry when they bought Matthew's Brothers Carrying Company four years ago."
