"In the Trenches," Awapuni Military Camp

Description

A group of about 25 recruits pose in and beside a trench during a training exercise as the Awapuni Racecourse, which was home to one of New Zealand’s largest training camps in World War One, and was the sole location for training the New Zealand Medical Corps staff. The inscription on the reverse reads: "A snap taken in the trenches. Harry
Awapuni Sept 1918."
