“The ‘Pipedreamer’ is Determined”

-
This image was published in the October 29th, 1978, edition of the Tribune weekly newspaper with the caption: “Cr Serrallach with his ‘pipedream’. The matchbox in his hand represents the scale size of the 25-metre pool the council is considering, compared with the size of the Lido model.”
An excerpt from the article read: “The councillor who has been accused of being a pipe-dreamer and of deluding people, is battling on with his project. And Cr George Serrallach is determined he's not going to be dismissed lightly this time. The councillor earlier this year presented his proposal to cover the Lido's main pool and. diving pool with a transluscent cover, to make the centre an all-year-round facility. But because of a "misunderstanding" between himself and the council's engineers, the cost of the project was exaggerated, he says, and the council dropped the plan. Cr Serrallach has since obtained professional figures to back up his claims. He still says his proposal will cost around $500,000, the figure he claimed before, his first approach was rejected. And he says that cost is $100,000 below the other plan the council is considering. (The council is considering the construction of a new covered, heated 25-retre pool, at the Lido.)”
