Rotoract's 'Mexican Bandit' stunt
- Description
-
The first of these images was published in the July 9th, 1978 edition of the Tribune weekly newspaper.
The caption read: “’Mexican bandits’ burst in on the Awapuni Rotary Club’s last meeting, snatched the club’s president, and made off with their captive. Later a ransom note was handed to members of the club and $22 later, club president Mr Bill Morrison was released unharmed. His ‘captors' were members of the Awapuni Rotoract Club, and the stunt was in aid of the club’s international project. The club supports an orphan in Fjji. In the photograph, a bewildered Mr Morrison is held at gunpoint by his scruffy-looking captors.”
These images form part of the Manawatū Evening Standard Negative Collection. Unfortunately, only negatives between April and December 1978 are held.
