“Delightful Day For Wacky Two”

These images were taken for the June 25th 1978, edition of the Tribune weekly newspaper, the first of which was published with the caption “Morrie Mouse. Dr Earball and Uncle Harvey get acquainted with some of the many children who went to see them at Harvey's Restaurant. “
The short article read: “A zany trio arrived at Harvey's restaurant in Palmerston North on Monday - Dr Earball, Morrie Mouse, and the restaurant's own character, Uncle Harvey. Radio 2ZA had its mobile studio there as well, and the noise of that, combined with the yells of delighted youngsters, made quite a din. But no one seemed to mind least of all the kids. Dr Earball, in real-life Biff Urquhart, a radio announcer from 4ZA in Invercargill, is promoting the national "Remember Your Radio" campaign. His appearance in Palmerston North, complete with eye-popping sunglasses, aerials sticking out of his head and Dracula-style cloak, caused quite a stir (like some of his awful stories 'on air'). Morrie Mouse is Radio 2ZA's mascot, to anyone who is unfamiliar with Palmerston North's radio station. In the photograph, Morrie Mouse, Dr Earball and Uncle Harvey get acquainted with some of the many children who came to the restaurant to see them. From left, the children are Mary-Anne Cavanagh (8), Geoffrey Cavanagh (6), David Hodgson (8), and Kerry Petarunuix (8).”
These images form part of the Manawatū Evening Standard Negative Collection. Unfortunately, only negatives between April and December 1978 are held.
