“Down Comes Yet Another Landmark”

This image was published in the April 16th, 1978, edition of the Tribune weekly newspaper.
The short article read: “Demolition of one of Feilding's most prominent landmarks is well under way, and scheduled for completion in early May. Going under the wrecker's bar is Feilding Agricultural High School's former hostel, "School House". The building, which was constructed in 1923, has been vacant for 18 months and is being demolished because it is considered to be an earthquake risk. The school's principal, Mr B. H. Kerr, says the building's function as a hostel for 80 boys was taken over by the school's "new" $400,000 hostel, which was constructed two years ago. Stage two of the new hostel is scheduled to go ahead soon, and is dependent on a decision by the Department of Education, he said. He could not say what the cost of the new building would be, but said it would be constructed near the stage one development. The site of the demolished School House will be landscaped and lawns and recreation facilities installed as part of an overall plan for the school's development, Mr Kerr said. The demolition began fortnight ago.”
