Kingsford Smith visited Palmeston North as part of a tour around New Zealand. Repairs to his aeroplane were necessary after the 'Southern Cross' was damaged when taxiing to a halt at Milson Aerodrome on Saturday 4 Feb 1933. The damaged wing was repaired in one of the Agricultural and Pastoral Showground buildings in Waldegrave Street.
