These images were taken for the April 16th 1978, edition of the Tribune weekly newspaper, the first of which was published with the caption “Getting his skates on -Stephen in action.”

An excerpt from the article read: “A Palmerston North man has been picked as captain of the New Zealand team to contest the world banked-track roller skating championships. Stephen Carwell-Cooke, from the Manawatu Showgrounds Skating Club. will be one of 10 New Zealanders in the team. The world championships are being held at Mar del Plata, Argentina, from May 25 until May 28.”

“Stephen said he expects this year's New Zealand team toto do best in the 500 metre time trials. "Four of us are especially good at them," he said.”
