"Visiting Home of Birth"

Description

This photograph is from a series taken for a story that ran in the Manawatu Evening Standard, 24 February 1965 with the caption: "Mrs A W Adcock (right) is seen watching workmen during the demolition of her birthplace - an old 10 roomed house next to the Majestic Hotel in Fitzherbert Avenue. The house was built in 1885 for Mr W H Smith, who was editor and proprietor of the Manawatu Daily Times at that time. Mrs Adcock's sister, Mrs I M Smith, was also lived in the house before the turn of the century, wistfully surveys the scene."
