These baths were opened in 1917 on the site of the old town morgue, which was shifted intact to the cemetery at Terrace End. In 1959, plans were submitted to the Palmerston North City Council for a larger facility adjacent to the Esplanade Gardens, and in October 1966 the Lido complex opened to replace the Municipal Baths.
