This image was taken for a story that ran in The Manawatu Evening Standard on 31 July 1958, page 12: C.E. Meads of King Country and W.J. Whineray performed well in the All Black trials: "Whineray surprised even the Palmerston North spectators who hailed him as a future All Black two years ago, when he was then a student at Massey College. Like Meads, he has progressed so fast that there is a no more vigorous player and able captain to be sought anywhere in the Dominion."
