“But What Would It Taste Like?”
- Description

This image was published in the October 15th, 1978, edition of the Tribune weekly newspaper.
The short article read: “This bottle of genuine Tui stout won first prize at the Palmerston North Agriculture and Pastoral Show in 1904 and it's still got its contents. Mrs Vi Skilton, president of the Pahiatua Museum Society, here holds the bottle of old Tui, complete with contents and cork wired into its top, for the benefit of our camera.
The museum was opened to the public for the first time yesterday, and will be open every Sunday afternoon from now on. The museum, in an old house at 33 Seacole Street Pahiatua, has been formed over the last 18 months by a group of people from the Pahiatua area who were concerned that historical items from the district's past were being lost forever.
Behind Mrs Skilton is an old Kodak folding camera, complete with tripod, velvet light cloth, glass plates, developing tanks, and postcard photos. The camera was loaned to the museum by Mrs G. Jones, and was used in the district for many years by the late Hugh McKechnie. The museum has a wide range of exhibits, some of them unique to the Pahiatua district.”
This image forms part of the Manawatū Evening Standard Negative Collection. Unfortunately, only negatives between April and December 1978 are held.
