Ashhurst School opened in September 1879, with Mr F. Whibley as the temporary head teacher. The first permanent head teacher was Mr Alfred Gower (c.1880-1887). The headmaster at the time of this photograph was Mr Hutton, who held the position from c.1923-1929.
