- Description
Ashhurst School opened in September 1879, with Mr F. Whibley as the temporary head teacher. The first permanent head teacher was Mr Alfred Gower (c.1880-1887). In this photograph, Gower stands in front of the building. The woman mounted sidesaddle is possibly Miss Crane.
