Fishermens Corner

The building on the corner of The Square and Fitzherbert Avenue contained the Fishermens Table, a well known family restaurant on the first floor. The name later appears to have changed to Fishermans Table. The building remains but has been renovated since this time.

Hokowhitu Lagoon

The Hokowhitu Lagoon is one of the original ox bow lagoons formed from the Manawatū River. It is sometimes called the Centennial Lagoon, named for New Zealand's 'centennial' celebrations in 1940. Across the river can be seen the then Palmerston North Teacher's College campus.

This stairway was part of the original design, and led to the sound shell that was attached at the front. It was removed in the 1990s.
