Plan for proposed alterations to Everybody's Theatre

Everybody's Picture Theatre was built in Coleman Place in 1913 by Arthur Hopwood, who leased the land. It had seating for about 700 people and ran as a picture theatre for almost 16 years. All-day shows were the rule, commencing at 1pm and ending at 10pm with the picture programmes being repeated several times. It was remodelled as the “Hotel Midland” in 1928, which operated under the license from the Occidental Hotel which burnt down in 1927. Much of the Hotel was demolished in 1965-1966.

By the mid-1890s it was the second largest New Zealand manufacturer of dairy products. Competition from other co-operatives led to its dismantling by 1910. Soldiers' Club Building - Overall Plan, 1916

Overall plan of the Soldiers' Club Building, dated 1916. Built on the corner of Cuba and George Streets for the Manawatu Patriotic Society and completed in 1917 to a design from the firm of L G West & Son. The building was used by the Returned and Services Association until 1966 when it was sold to a private owner. Currently it houses Cafe Cuba on the ground floor whose outdoor tables can be seen occupying the footpath along Cuba Street. The building is well preserved and contains many of the original design features including cast iron columns along the verandah.
