Description

This image was not published in the Manawatu Evening Standard, taken on 9 July, 1963. "Floodwaters, caused by the torrential rain late this morning, caused much inconvenience today in many parts of the city. With school-children on their way home for lunch, many had difficulty in getting to their homes. Pedestrians found it almost impossible to walk along the footpath between the Square on the Bank of New Zealand side of the street. Water lapped from shops fronts to the centre of the road." Other images of the flooding were published on 9 July, 1963.
