This image was taken for a story that ran in The Manawatu Evening Standard on 29 February, 1964. "Water seeped into many shops in the city's commercial area yesterday. Coleman Place (seen above) was one of the stretches worst hit. According to a traffic officer, motorists did not help the already taxed traffic congestion conditions during the 8 p.m. rush. This was especially evident at the Broadway Avenue-Princess Street intersection. the officer claimed that many drivers made tours of the flood areas instead of driving home by the quickest route."
