W.W.S.A. and More for
Britain Scheme
Miss C. Warburton presided over a
full attendance of the district commit-
tee of the Womens War Service Auxili-
ary at a special meeting called at the
request of the Dominion secretary.
The chairman welcomed the members
and explained that the meeting had
been called to consider the suggestion
that the W.W.S.A. should participate in
the scheme to save coupons not required
and not used, with the sure knowledge
that such unused and saved coupons
would mean more food for the people
of Britain. The W.W.S.A. would be
recognised officially for this purpose. It
was agreed to contact the Rationing
controller and to circularise womens
organisations, also the leaders of the
Auxiliary soliciting co-operation.
Mrs. J. H. Whyte reported for the
canteen section that seven trains had
been met on September 30, a total of
2,719 returned men, some prisoners of
war, being served with refreshments
assisted by Red Cross and St. John
Ambulance members. Mrs. Whyte
voiced pleasure in the way in which
everyone had worked the leaders being
in attendance for every train. Arrange-
ments for meeting three trains today
with men from the Andes, were intim-
ated. Arrangements were also made for
resuming visits to soldier patients in
hospital. As it had been possible to
transact routine business it was agreed
not to meet until the necessity arose.
