This image was taken for a story that ran in The Manawatu Evening Standard on 04 April 1963, "Contractors today started drilling operations in the exploration for underground water supplies in the city. Bores will be drilled to some 400ft to 500ft. The first one in Terrace End Park was started today and work will go on for some weeks. A further bore will later be sunk at Takaro. The exploration will determine whether or not additional supplies can be located to assist in the supply of water, particularly during the summer months."
