Description

The Fitzherbert Water Race was built in 1918 to supply the Fitzherbert West area with water from the Kahuterawa Stream. This settlement box caught any sand and debris at the head of the 4 inch pipe which carried the water. The Fitzherbert Water Race Committee and volunteers kept the pipe flowing for 35 years until an electric pump was installed at the top of Hewitts Road.
