Makerua Hill Deviation. Improvement to Alignment. Levin - Palmerston North Main Highway

This photograph was reproduced in the New Zealand Public Works Statement, 1937 - Appendix E: Thirteenth Annual Report of the Main Highways Board, p.45.
In the progress report for the year ending 31 March 1937, the following work was recorded as having been completed on the Levin - Palmerston North Highway:
"Horowhenua County: Between Levin and Shannon, 2 m. 60 ch. was reconstructed, primed, and sealed. On the Makerua Hill, 29 ch. of formation of deviations has been completed and 18 ch. metalled.
Kairanga County: The reconstruction and sealing of 4 m. immediately south of Palmerston North has been commenced." p.28.
