Description

This image was taken for a story that ran in The Manawatu Evening Standard on 21 March, 1959. "Voices travel over the telephone wires as the first stages are entered in the operation of pulling through a cable in Ruahine Street early in the week. Directions from the foreman standing on the right, travel along to a Post and Telegraph employee working the winch that draws the cable through the duct. The cable is shown being greased as it enters a sleeve which directs it into the duct."
