This image was taken for a story that ran in The Manawatu Evening Standard on 21 March, 1959. "Making sure that the cable passes through the breaks in the ducts unharmed is an employee of the Post and Telegraph Department. In constant touch by telephone with the winch and the cable drum, he lets both men know when the cable has passed and if it is travelling safely."
