Description

Miranui Flaxmill was owned by A & L Seifert Flaxmilling Company Ltd and opened in 1907. This view is of the bleaching paddocks behind the main mill buildings. Here the fibre was bleached for 4-6 days before being scutched and baled. The man in the photograph is turning each hank so that it could be bleached on the other side. Turning was done about 2-3 days after the fibre was first spread out on the ground. During wet weather the hanks were hung on drying fences, which can be seen in the back ground and on the right.
