“Steaming Pools Fad Hitting P.N. Soon”
- Description
-
These images were taken for the August 20th 1978 edition of the Tribune weekly newspaper – the first of which was published with the caption: “Andy Joseph tests the spa pool's steaming waters for temperature while other conference members discuss the pool's merits and future.”
An excerpt from the article read: “Swimming pools- New Zealanders are buying $6 million-worth of new ones a year. Now a new swimming pool phenomenon, Spa pools, is hitting New Zealand and it's about to hit Palmerston North. The 17th annual conference of people involved in the swimming pool trade met in Palmerston North last week and studied the new trend. The manager of Filtermaster Limited in Palmerston North, Mr P. Pegden, told the "Tribune" that about 300 spa pools have been sold in the Auckland area since Christmas. His son Clive said 60 or 70 more spa pools are being installed in Aucklanders' homes every month.”
These images form part of the Manawatū Evening Standard Negative Collection. Unfortunately, only negatives between April and December 1978 are held.
