This image of a headstone was taken at Terrace End Cemetery. Frederick Nathan died in 1938 after a successful business career that ran alongside a commitment to the community he lived in. His father Joseph worked for Jacob Joseph's import business from his time of arrival in Wellington from London in 1856. Joseph Nathan later bought the business and invested in land becoming one of the biggest landowners in the Manawatū. Frederick and his brothers joined their fathers business and moved to Palmerston North. The Nathans built the first dried milk processing plant in New Zealand in Bunnythorpe in 1904. The infant food they produced was marketed as 'Glaxo' babyfood, a trade name that later extended to a range of food and pharmaceutical products. Frederick Nathan was mayor of Palmerston North from 1923 - 1927. He vigorously advocated for Palmerston North as the site for the New Zealand Agricultural College (later Massey College). Nathan Place is names for Frederick Nathan.
