This image was taken for a story that ran in The Manawatu Evening Standard on December 3rd 1965 "It was a proud moment from Alan Whitehead, of Ross Intermediate School, when he unveiled this painting of his former principal (Mr. W.K. McIlroy) and presented it to him. Alan, who has taken art lessons from Mr. M.L. Fremaux, took three months to complete the picture. The funds for the frame were raised by the pupils of room nine at the school. Mr. McIlroy then presented the portrait to David Dowthwaite (pictured) who accepted it on behalf of the school."
