Description

Frederick Pirani (1858-1926) was the second owner of the 'Manawatu Evening Standard' and was later joined by his brother David, 1891-1903. Born in Australia to a newspaper family, Frederick Pirani came to Palmerston North in 1884 and became a prominent member of the community, joined by David later. Frederick served as Member of Parliament for Palmerston North 1893-1902. Both Fred and David moved from Palmerston North after the sale of the newspaper, but David returned in retirement. David and Fred Pirani were photographed when the paper was sold to Nash & Coombe. From left: David, Fred.
