David and Frederick Pirani
- Description
Frederick Pirani (1858-1926) was the second owner of the 'Manawatu Evening Standard' and was later joined by his brother David, 1891-1903. Born in Australia to a newspaper family, Frederick Pirani came to Palmerston North in 1884 and became a prominent member of the community, joined by David later. Frederick served as Member of Parliament for Palmerston North 1893-1902. Both Fred and David moved from Palmerston North after the sale of the newspaper, but David returned in retirement.
