NATIONAL EMPLOYMENT SERVICE,
P.O. BOX 165, TE ARO,
WELLINGTON C.2
7th May, 1946
Miss Warburton, M.B.E.,
497, College Street,
PALMERSTON NORTH.
Dear Miss Warburton,
I have now taken over my new position with the
Home Aid Service and I am writing to you for help in making
the Service known in Palmerston North and interesting girls
in same, particularly those who have worked with you over
the past six years.
The scheme, as you know, in its initial stages is
an emergency one to help in maternity cases, sickness and the
mother with children where there is sickness in the home.
The Home Aid will become a public Service employee, and
she will be entitled to sick leave on full pay on the scale apply-
ing in the Public Service of this country. She will receive two
weeks paid holidays each year. She will become a contributor to
the Public Service Superannuation Fund. Travelling expenses to
and from work will be paid her and, in fact, she will have an
equality with other reigning professions such as karitane and
dental nursing.
If there are any girls in Palmerston North who are
interested in this Service and anxious to come to Wellington, I
am sure accommodation could be found for them in one of the
hostel units in this city. Also, there are vacancies in
Palmerston North where the girl may live in her own home, and if
you do know of anyone interested they could call on the District
Employment Officer, Palmerston North, or write direct to me if
they want to leave your district.
I am forwarding you some circulars and I would appre-
ciate it very much if you would have these distributed to the
Red Cross, Y.W.C.A. and St. John, particularly if the Y.W.C.A.
would pin it on their notice board. However, I will leave this
to you but I know that I can rely on you to help me in recruiting
young women for this excellent service.
Kind personal regards,
Yours sincerely,
[---- Malempré?]
Encl.
