Captain C. Holmwood

Mr C. Holmwood was captain of the ship "Hydrabad", which was a full-rigged iron ship of 1250 tons net register with a length of 229 ft, a depth of 23.2 ft and a beam of 37.2 ft. The ship was built in Scotland in 1885. The ship wrecked on Waitarere Beach (between Levin and Foxton) on the 25 of June, 1887 in gale-force winds while on a voyage to Adelaide from Lyttleton. The hulk of the ship can still been seen at the beach.
