Description

This image was taken for a story that ran in The Manawatu Evening Standard on 10 May, 1963. "Work progressing on the new swimming baths at the Te Arakura School yesterday. Over £500 has been collected by parents and local residents towards the cost. In addition voluntary labour is keeping the cost down. Considering that the school has only 50 pupils the effort is a worthy one. The children were gathered yesterday to watch the concrete being poured and the look of pleasure could be seen on their faces. It is hoped that the new baths will be ready for the next summer season."
