Description

This image is taken from a postcard. It shows a flood which possibly took place earlier than 1908.
The first Fitzherbert Bridge was built between 1876 and 1877, but was only useable from 1878 after the adjoining road was formed and metalled. It was constructed by the Norwegian settler A. H. Ihle at a cost of £7000. Major expense was incurred to repair damage caused by flooding in 1880, 1895, 1897 and 1902.
